I got e-liquid in mouth

E-cigs safety e-liquid in mouth

E-liquid in mouth

E-liquid in mouth is poisonous! All safety information instructs you to seek medical advice if e-liquid is consumed. Electric cigarettes and vaporizers turn glycerol, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerol and nicotine into an aerosol, that is inhaled. Are these chemical based products harmful to us?

Side effects of e-liquid in the mouth may include nausea, headaches, skin rash/irritation, chest pains and heart palpitations. Nicotine is poisonous and propylene glycol is used in the manufacture of pesticides and other products. Although it is thought to have little effect if consumed by humans and is deemed safe by the F.D.A. However further studies need to be conducted into the long-term health effects of e-liquid consumption and skin contact. On the food and drug administrations website you will find lists of experimental research that is being carried out right now, they are asking questions about the long and short term effect to humans.

How much nicotine to kill adult?

The exact amount of nicotine required to kill is dependent on height, weight, age and health of the adult. Nicotine poisoning has a range of side effects. E-liquid consumption is common, often when vaping you will get e-liquid in your mouth. The odd drop or splatter from your vape will not be fatal do not worry, however it may have other side effects like the ones listed above. You can get e-liquid in mouth either through faulty products, misuse or just accidentally it is not uncommon! 0.5-1.0 mg/kg nicotine can be a lethal dose for adult humans and much less for children.

How much nicotine can kill child?

The exact amount of nicotine to kill depends again on age height weight etc, also how the nicotine is consumed or absorbed by the body. Although, as little as 0.1 mg/kg for children is considered to be enough for a fatal dose. Very alarming as the average e-liquid bottle contains a lot more than 0.1 mg with strengths up to 34 mg being sold.

Other side effects of e-liquid consumption

E-liquid as we know contains nicotine, too much nicotine can lead to death. Other side effects from over use may include mouth ulcers and blisters. This is worsened by frequent use and a craving for nicotine. The full effect of frequently getting e-liquid in the mouth is not yet known and only time and studies will tell.

Other effects from over use can also include headaches, nausea, chest pain, heart palpitations and visual impairment. If any of these symptoms occur you should stop using your smoking device and if they persist seek medical advice/treatment. When using vaporizing products care and attention should be payed to all safety information, e-liquid should never be swallowed or put in the mouth.

If you do get these symptoms you should try and make some changes to the way you are vaping, try using a lower strength liquid and taking fewer puffs. It is common when you switch from tobacco that you will hardly put the vape down and always be puffing, this can lead to headaches, ulcers and sores in your mouth.

What happens if you drink vape juice?

What happens if you drink vape juice? well it depends how much you drink. The more you drink the more likely you are to die. Although the amount of vape juice you have to drink to die is quite high. Depending on the juices strength you would have to drink at least 10 ml of vape juice. However there are other side effects before you reach the fatality stage. Nausea, vomiting, light headed, spinning vision and sweats are side effects that you will you feel first. Nicotine  poisoning has many symptoms to look out for. I know from personal experience the effects as I once tried to eat a cigarette whilst stoned.

Can you drink vape juice?

Can you drink vape juice? Stupid question, of course you can drink vape juice. You open a bottle and squirt it in your mouth, but!!! Why would you wan’t to drink vape juice? I know the sweet flavors of tropical fruit vape juice, or the sound of beer flavor vape juice sounds like you should drink it. But do not drink vape juice! nicotine is a poison and if you consume enough you will die! If you drink just a little there will be other side effects as listed all the way through the article. So please do not drink vape juice, do not put any in friends drink when you are drunk and for god’s sake keep vape juice out of the reach of children. It will only take a few cases of idiocy or children dying through drinking vape juice to bring the regulators crashing in. Then there would be more laws and stuff past and vaping would become more expensive.

E liquid poisoning symptoms

E liquid poisoning symptoms vary depending on how much nicotine is consumed. They generally start as feeling faint and light headed, followed by spinning, sweats hot and cold, then vomiting. Nicotine is a poison and your body acts accordingly to try and rid it from your system.

Side effects of swallowing e liquid

The side effects of swallowing e liquid are varied, the immediate effect of swallowing e liquid detailed above, however there are potential long term side effects also. Nicotine poisoning can cause long term heart trouble. Nicotine accelerates the rhythm of your heart, a fatal overdose causes a heart attack. If you swallow a lethal amount but survive your heart and arteries may have been permanently damaged, due to the stress of the poisons effect. So again do not swallow e-liquid and always keep it out of the reach of children.

Faulty products causing concern

Faulty products that leak e-liquid in the mouth should not be allowed for sale. Especially as e-liquid can kill and relatively small amounts can cause harm. Tighter tougher regulation is required to make sure faulty cheap products are not sold that can lead to death.

  • i have swallowed some on accident when useing my e-cig i feel very lightheaded and have a strange taste in my mouth what can i do

    • Well I usually use no nicotine to 3mg or 24 mg and sometimes it would spit in my mouth. It depends on the atomizer and coils. When it does I usually just lick my shirt. When it’s a small amount or none I just swallow. Ive had no issues so far. And theres an issue with this article. Propylene glycol is found in INHALERS. As it should not be swallowed in large amounts, it is safe if your atomizer spits in your mouth. Typically I use 100 percent vg base.

    • Listen first of all drink plenty of room temperature water so that you can at least rinse some of it of your taste buds and secondly please seek medical advice as I am a practitioner but not in this section

    • My lil bro whose 3 stole cheap ass vape and tried to vape he told me he drank it. Im wondering if he did or he couldnt think of a word to describe what he did. I made him swill his mouth with water and he seams ok atm but im both worried and scared

  • I just swallowed a tiny bit. I feel sick to the bone. I have stomach ache, headache and feel like I’m about to puke. Tried eating something and drinking milk. It just makes me feel more nauseous. Should i worry ?

    • I would not worry too much Kevin, depending on the amount you swallowed you should be fine. If it was just a small drop that came through your vaporizer it is nothing to worry about. In future if you get e-liquid/e-juice in your mouth just spit it out and rinse your mouth out with water. I hope you are ok 🙂

    • EVERY single “Fin” e cig I get leaks oil into my mouth. I’ve bought atleast 4 of the starter kits and probably 20 refills over the past 2 years. Every time they give me mouth ulcers along with a sore throat and ear pain… I’m not using FIN or tobacco right now. I would recommend smoking a real cigarette over that brand of e cig. Not sure what all of them are like but these are basically poisoning me. Going to the doctor soon, this is insane!

  • Im am not saying to ever swallow the stuff but I have swallowed many large drips and had a cheep pen break in my pants and spill on my leg at work. I washed it off with a wet napkin and continued my day. No ill effects yet. I am 5’8″ 190lbs . Get some Balls hippy and shove your regulation up your bell bottoms.

  • i have just had a little bit in mouth from my vapour its a 80vg and 20vg with 3mg or nicotine

should i seek medical help or is that okay

  • I didn’t swallow the juice exactly but when I drew the vapor into my lungs, I choked and swallowed the vapor, now I feel like I have an absolute severe cold, coughing uncontrollably, worst headaches in my life, fever all the time and chills, entirely weak. I went to the doctor yesterday and she said I just have a cold, but I woke up this morning and I’m 20X worse! I find it ironic how I was perfectly health before I vaped that night. I’m really scared.

  • I found a bottle of e drops in my son’s room. He’s 16. Never saw this before. Is it used to get high?

  • I blew down my ecig the other day and sosome liquid came back in to my mouth a couple of hours later my breathing slowed down and I kept on going dizzy

  • Wow, this whole e-liquid in the mouth thing is freaking me out and seems like I’m not the only one here. I frequently (this means 1 or 2 times a week and I’m a daily user) get a few amount of e-liquid on my tongue so I just decided to get some information about the risks, based on the caution that I must wipe off the e-liquid immediately even if it gets on my skin. I have not experienced any medical issues yet but what about the long term effects? I mean absorption through the mouth.
And if it gets on my tounge then it means that I have already inhaled some drops into the airways? Or even in the lungs? Should I cough it up or what?

So is there any research about the long term effects? It is obvious that it won’t kill you instantly but what aftereffect should I face for example after 10 years or more? I don’t wanna quit vaping I just started 1 year ago but now I am seriously thinking about giving it up only because of these few “poisonous” drops….

  • I have severe cough after i swallowed 4 drops of e-liquid. I dont vape nor smoke. Am i be okay or no? Please tell me i’m worried.

  • I’m 11, me and my 13 year old sister got dared to swallow about 1/4 of a shot glass of vaping liquid. Could we die? We had harsh pains in our throats but immediately ate and drank, what should we do?!

    • That was a silly thing to do. You are so young and have probably never had nicotine before. Hopefully it was low MG of Nic. You’ll be fine but don’t ever do that again!

  • Lol you guys are pussys I’ve gotten so much in my mouth. Does nothing. Also you geniuses if your so worried about getting in your mouth don’t smoke it. It’s not going to be so dangerous to get in your mouth if you can smoke it and not drop dead. Lol this shit cracked me up

    • Pussies ??? You sorry bastard. I had a couple of drops pop up into my mouth, and now it’s so blistered that I can’t eat at all !!! Better watch who you call a pussy punk ! What are you a stockholder ???

    • Well this might crack you up too James. My daughter who is 31 got some in her mouth after the guy in the shop showing her how to use it poured some liquid directly onto the wick, saying it was the best way to get the thing going. She had a mini seizure that afternoon, then a major seizure the next day after then having a regular cigarette. I thought I was going to lose her and thank god I was at home with her. She was convulsing then vomiting, the ambulance arrived quickly thank goodness but if she’d been alone I don’t like to think what might have happened.

  • You know what’s also used in the production of pesticides? Water.

Propylene glycol is pretty much inert, in biological terms. It’s used as a bulking agent in all kinds of food and medical products. What you’re probably *thinking* of is the similar-sounding but much more deadly Ethylene Glycol, which is the main component of automotive antifreeze.

Also, your estimates on how much constitutes a lethal dose seems to be based on very outdated and dubious information that suggested 60mg could kill an adult. In which case, anyone with a 40-a-day analogue cigarette habit should be dead within 36 hours, as they’re easily absorbing far more than that. Of course, if it hits you all at once instead of over a day, the effects will be magnified, but the current best estimate (seeing as no-one tends to conduct “will this kill you?” studies in humans, so we have to go by animal models and studying actual cases of lethal/not-quite-lethal poisoning) is about ten times higher … all at once.

So a 15ml tablespoon of high-strength e-liquid (36 ~ 54mg/ml, 3.6 ~ 5.4%) would be risky, as would knocking back a full 60ml bottle of 12mg/ml (1.2%). Below those concentrations and quantities, it might make you ill, but you’ll probably survive. A teaspoon of 0.6%, you’ll get a very unpleasant concentrated buzz if you’re not habituated to a serious tobacco habit; if you are, it might not make quite as much of an impression.

It’s still not a good idea any way (maybe if you were desperate and your vaper broke, you could put a few drops in a shot glass and dilute it out with water to quell the cravings), but mainly because you’ll make a mess when you throw up, and maybe annoy the people down at the E.R… the people who actually died from it consumed pretty serious quantities, or had mishaps with the pure extract (when it’s 999mg/ml, you don’t need very much of it even splashing on your skin to have a very bad effect). One guy was registered as surviving 4 whole grams, but only with prompt and intense medical treatment…

(I don’t blame you, though – there’s a lot of misinformation out there; even the actual research scientists whose reports I read on this note that it’s very difficult to find reliable information in the existing literature, and that a lot of it appears to be based on anecdotal reports going back to the 1860s…)

    • Thanks for what is possibly one of the most useful answers to anything I’ve read on the net. Would you mind listing some sources that I could read through?

    • I got some in my mouth and spit it out and rinsed my mouth with water will I be ok

  • …and on reading a little further in some other tabs I had open on the “other side” of this one (plugging through a bunch I opened all at once ^_^ ), it seems that the more pressing matter is that consuming more than a token amount of pure propylene glycol OR vegetable glycerin is a fast track to diahorrea city, as they’re also quite effective laxatives 😀 … rather like downing a spoonful of castor oil, back in the day. It’ll be painful, and messy … might not kill you, but you may end up wishing it had!

  • Anthony Figueroa

Lol. Thank god I read this. I developed a rash throughout my body and wasn’t sure if it was my new laundry detergent, body wash, or something else. I recently got a new tank and over primed it. Thank god I now know.

  • I put a drop on my hand to test the flavour like you do with vape fluids noticed the toxic sign after will I be okay?

  • Is 0mg liquid as bad as liquids with nicotine in them

  • I have been caping for over 2 years know and it seems like if I get just a little bit of e liquid in my mouth and swollow it I get really bad indigestion if I don’t vape no indigestion. So kinda thinking it is the problem.

  • Hey!!! I recently was hitting a mod that i borrowed from my 13 year old son, he got it from one of his friends. He told me to try it cause at first i was upset cause i thought like cigs itd be illegal for him to have it, and so at first it made me cough alot, but then i stopped coughing as i got used to it. i can kindof see why kids do it, it is very fruity and nice :)!! but uhhh h i still took it from him so he wouldnt take it to school. and the next day as he was at school i was using it and i guess it was cheap or something but the tank blew up and hot juice like sprayed all in my mouth into the back of my throat. My wife took me to the ER and now it turns out i have 2nd degree burns in the back of my throat ;(( as well as some burns around the inside of my mouth!!! be carefull with these!!! -Billy

  • Alright, it looks like were dealing with a decent amount of misinformation here. PG and VG are generally considered safe to eat, and are metabolized easily by the body usually into lactic acid in PG’s case. They remain dangerous however if they are injected intravenously (why?). Now as far as nicotine poisoning, there is great variation in how studies have reported that threshold, with a general consensus that children are much more susceptible than adults to nicotine poisoning, and that for adults it is relatively high, but can have very unpleasant effects even in amounts far lower than that threshold. (I am not going to state a threshold since that amount varies greatly between studies, I am not a medical professional) That being said, if someone were to directly drink e-liquid at a “drinkable” quantity within the range of 3mg/30ml to 18mg/30ml, they would deal with gastrointestinal effects, nausea, and effects related to consuming an abnormally high amount of nicotine, in most cases resulting in the need for medical attention. That in itself is a very bad idea, there is a reason that it is vaporized and is normally consumed through small amounts being absorbed through the lungs at a time. Now, a decent amount of nicotine is not absorbed when consumed orally, some being absorbed shortly on first pass and the rest causing gastrointestinal effects and being absorbed further down the digestive process. Once the nicotine is in your blood, whether it got there by you inhaling it or by eating/drinking, it is the same. The danger of drinking it is not being aware of how much nicotine you are actually consuming. It would be without a doubt way more than you could feasibly inhale in that amount of time, hence the negative effects, feelings of being sick and whatnot. That is to say if you consume a tiny amount, drops at a time, or even up to 0.5ml of the weaker concentrations, you wouldn’t be faced with an emergency at all, slight discomfort and definitely a noticeable “buzz”. In those situations, it is not deadly, but it is not good for you in any capacity. The fact that in this article they label nicotine as a poison makes sense, if you consume large amounts of nicotine or even if children consume small amounts, it is certainly a poison, but vaping or smoking (or even eating) nicotine is a controlled use of a poison for a psychoactive effect. It makes no sense to say that vaped or smoked nicotine is not poisonous, but orally consumed nicotine is, just in principal. It is just the sheer difference in amount and concentration between the two actions of consumption, and the fact that it is a known effect for nicotine to be more potent when consumed orally, and its effects last for longer when consumed orally. It is possible that other compounds that exist in e-juice that differ between e-juice products could also be harmful when consumed orally, all said and done it is a bad idea to consume any amount of e-juice orally, but small amounts being spit into your mouth while vaping are objectively more harmful in the fact that they can be quite hot and can cause burns, then the actual effects of accidentally consuming it.

  • i got about a drop of 30ml juice into my mouth, i spit it out but ive had a horrible headache and sore throat since, i can’t tell whether it was the juice or i am just sick but im getting a bit worried, i can’t find any information on how badly a drop can damage someone so any help is much needed.
