Nicotine free e liquid, quit the habit!

nicotine free e-liquid

Nicotine free e liquid can be used as an aid to quit smoking. Inhaling or vaping nicotine free vape juice gives the user the experience of smoking. It appeases the throats desire for smoke and keeps the hands busy. Lots of people say when they are quitting smoking that their hands are restless and need something to do. Vaping nicotine free eliquid satisfies all of these habits and is proving to be one the most effective ways to quitting nicotine all together.

Stop smoking with nicotine free e-liquid

Current aids in quitting smoking include nicotine patches, chewing gum and plastic inhalers. They have been on the market for many years now and have helped countless people quit smoking. Are these products any where near as good as vaping nicotine free e-liquid?

Vaping nicotine free e liquid is in my opinion the best way to quit smoking. You can use e-liquid that contains nicotine at the start. Then gradually wean yourself down in the strength of e-liquid until you nicotine free e-liquid. An example would be if you were a heavy smoker then start on 18 mg e-liquid, which is strong.

On a monthly program of lowering nicotine dosage. You slowly work your way down through the strengths until you’re using nicotine free juice.

Is nicotine free vape juice safe?

Is nicotine free e liquid safe? Well yes very! There are no harmful substances in nicotine free vape juice, food grade propylene glycol is absolutely harmless. (PG) is found in many food and cosmetic products. Vegetable glycerol is another safe product and the same as (PG) it is used in many food and cosmetic products.

In fact the only product that i toxic in vape juice is the nicotine, so if you are vaping nicotine free then there is nothing to worry about.

Nicotine free e liquid monthly quitting program

So the nicotine free monthly program works like this e.g. A heavy smoker that smokes 40 real cigarettes a day wants to quit for health reasons. They hear about this program and buy a vaping kit. (A refillable vaporizer is my recommendation as it is the cheapest and the batteries last longer).

  • A smoker who is used to smoking 40 cigarettes a day. Should start on a high strength e-liquid, 18 mg liquid would suffice. Month one they get used to vaping this strength liquid.
  • Month two the smoker moves to a lower strength liquid: 12 to 14 mg would be a good move. They should then continue smoking this liquid for two months or until they are satisfied by this strength.
  • After the smoker is happy smoking the 12-14 mg liquid. They should then move down to a low strength liquid like 6 mg. It is very simple to do and requires just a small amount of will power. By this time they will have already noticed health improvements.
  • For the last steps they should try and move down to nicotine free e-liquid. It will seem to them like they are still smoking as the device mimics smoking tobacco in many ways. If the nicotine free step is too much of an undertaking. You can always add some e-liquid that contains nicotine to the nicotine free liquid. If you half fill the vaporizer with nicotine free e-liquid. Then the other half fill it with 6mg e-liquid. You will be effectively smoking 3 mg e-liquid. You can use this technique to gradually cut nicotine out all together. All it will take is a little organization and will power.

What’s in nicotine free e liquid?

Nicotine free vape juice is easy to make and there are only two ingredients (if you subtract the flavoring). The two key ingredients in nicotine free e juice are propylene glycol  (PG) or vegetable glycerol (VG) a small amount of alcohol can be added to think the nicotine free liquid but is not always required.

E-liquid nicotine free

This is by far the most effective way of cutting down and quitting nicotine and tobacco I have ever tried. It still seems like you are smoking! If you gradually cut down on the amount of nicotine in the e-liquid. You stand a really good chance of quitting once and for all. Also if you make your own nicotine free e-liquid it is incredibly cheap. You can make 1 liter of nicotine free e-liquid for under $30! There is no need to pay extortionate prices from retailers when you can make your own. There is no need to worry as the two chemicals in nicotine free e-liquid are harmless. All you need is propylene glycol or vegetable glycol and glycerol. You can buy these ingredients online and make huge savings especially compared to spending $20 a day on traditional cigarettes!

Lose weight with e cigs?

lose weight with e-cigs

It’s old information that nicotine is an appetite suppressant, well if you didn’t know already – it is! It helps us lose weight. Scientists believe that nicotine stimulates part of the brain that controls appetite, so when nicotine is ingested you eat less, fact! Nicotine decreases appetite by activating the POMC neurons in the brain.

With scientific proof that nicotine helps keep the pounds off it is no wonder that millions of tobacco smokers smoke to lose weight and stay thin. The only, rather large drawback, is that tobacco smoke is harmful in many other ways and contains lots of nasty carcinogens. Smoking tobacco is bad for your health everyone knows that. Anti tobacco smoking advertising campaigns have been running for years and the health impact of cigarette smoke is common knowledge.

Does nicotine cause weight loss?

Does nicotine cause weight loss? Yes, indirectly nicotine causes weight loss. Nicotine suppresses the appetite and reduces craving for sugary foods by lowering insulin levels. It does not mean that it will have an immediate effect, will power and controlled calorie intake are also required. Nicotine however can be an aid to loosing weight, nicotine is a stimulant and is not a known carcinogen.

Loosing weight with juul vapes or e-cigs

Electronic smoking is proving to be substantially less harmful to your health, compared to tobacco. So why aren’t more people using it as an aid to lose weight? E-juice – the stuff you vaporize that contains the nicotine when electronically smoking – comes in a wide range of flavors and generally tastes quite nice.

In contrast, tobacco smoke tastes bad and makes you and your breath stink! Not to mention the lingering stench left behind on your clothes. This smell can stink out your car or a whole house and is very difficult to get rid of. This doesn’t happen when smoking an e-cig, the vapor or aerosol that is inhaled and exhaled is almost odorless. The range of fruity flavors and menthol blends in fact smell quite pleasant, especially compared to tobacco smoke.

There are many vaporizers to choose from such as Juul, Blu, V2 and E-lites but are they safe? Well current studies suggest that vaporizing is significantly safer than smoking cigarettes. Which is great so if you can loose weight with products like Juul and Blu why not use them as a tool to do so?

If we are to believe that e-smoking has very little effect on our health, why are more people not using e-cigs to lose weight? Why are people still smoking tobacco?

Quitting tobacco with e-cigs

Quitting tobacco with e-cigs is easy! I stopped smoking tobacco the day I got my first e-cig kit and I feel great! My fitness has improved with exercise and my skin complexion has recovered from a dull grayish tone, attributed to tobacco smoke.

loose weight nicotine

ciggy packs

With a little will power and the e-cig almost constantly glued to my lip I quit smoking tobacco but a side effect that I noticed was, that I found it almost impossible to gain weight. My appetite was the same as when I smoked tobacco but if anything I’ve lost a few more pounds since smoking e-cigs.

More nicotine in e-cigs=weight loss?

Something I have noticed and it’s quite obvious is the amount that I smoke has increased dramatically. The e-cig is always there ready to suck on, the slightest nicotine craving and I am there puffing away. Sometimes I even use the menthol flavored liquid to freshen my breath without any desire for nicotine. So all this extra nicotine I am consuming is effecting my weight and seeing me lose the pounds.

I am slightly worried though as an adult man I don’t particularly want to be skinny but my nicotine addiction is causing me to be. I really don’t think that I have the will power to stop smoking all together and this bothers me. Well, what if you are over weight could electronic smoking be the answer to helping you lose the pounds in an easy safe way?

Appetite suppressant e liquid

E-liquid contains nicotine, nicotine can help suppress a persons appetite. Vape pen for weight loss is a known fact as vape pens vaporize e-liquid, which in turn contains nicotine. So can e-cigarettes help you loose weight ? The short answer is yes! The details have been outlined else where in this article.

Do Juul’s make you loose weight ? Juul appetite suppressant can help you loose weight, they are a nicotine vaporizer, nicotine makes you eat less. Blu vapes make you loose weight or at least suppress your appetite also. E cig weight loss is the same as using a vape, e-cigs are just another form of vaporizer and do the same thing.

Does vaping make you hungry ?

No! Vaping should do the exact opposite, the nicotine in the e-liquid should suppress your appetite, unless you have some strange metabolism that reverses the affect of nicotine. The more nicotine you vape the lower the cravings for food will become. Nicotine is a stimulant and not a known carcinogen, it also has no other known health side effects. So it should be safe to use as a slimming aid. Slimming vapor or skinny vapor is available to buy and is marketed as an aid to weight loss.

Can e cigarettes help you loose weight?

Can e cigarettes help you lose weight ? Yes e cigarettes help you loose weight, the nicotine has a reaction with your body, this reaction effects your metabolism, brain and other parts of your body. One of the side effects is reduced appetite. So theoretically eating less will help you loose weight but you will still need to exercise and eat a healthy balanced diet in order to get the best results.

Lose weight with e cigs ?

If you are over weight and a smoker (for god’s sake don’t take up the habit if you are over weight and a non-smoker, nicotine is highly addictive) quit the tobacco smokes! Start vaping, probably like me you will find it very hard to put the e-cig down. This will mean the amount of nicotine you consume will continue suppressing your appetite and help you lose weight.

Couple this with a decent fitness regime and a healthy, balanced diet, you will see the pounds fall off. Electronic smoking will help you lose weight. The nicotine reduces your appetite- This much we know but the long-term health impact of e-smoking is unknown. Early research suggests e-smoking is safe compared to tobacco smoking. Figures put out there say 95% healthier. Although more intensive long-term research needs to be carried out to prove its safety.

Obviously any information in this post is my own opinion, although there is scientific evidence to back it up. Nicotine suppresses your appetite, fact! If you eat less you should lose weight-common sense. We are told that vaping has little effect on ones health- multiple sources! Vaping should help you lose weight, it’s less harmful than taking illegal drugs such as speed or vomiting after food.

Gaining weight after quitting smoking ecig

Gaining weight after quitting smoking can be a problem for tobacco smokers and vapors alike. The trouble is when you quit smoking, vaping or using an ecig your body no longer has access to nicotine. Nicotine helps you keep your weight under control by suppressing your appetite and reducing insulin levels.

If you have quit ecigs or tobacco you could try using nicotine gum as an aid to keeping your weight under control.

Socialites e-cig are they safe?

Socialites e-cig

Are socialites e-cig safe? Well that depends on what you deem as safe I guess. There has only been a few years research into the health impact of electronic smoking. Illnesses such as cancer can take years develop. So short term research is not enough to confirm the safety of socialites e-cigs and other brands.

Socialites e-liquid

The e-liquid produced by socialites contains 3 main ingredients: Nicotine, Propylene glycol and glycerol. Nicotine is very toxic and a small amount can be fatal, Glycerol is safer – a simple sugar alcohol compound so no real worries here. There is some controversy surrounding Propylene Glycol with arguments for and against the level of its safety. It is used in many products from soaps and shampoo to foods and drugs. It is deemed safe for use by global regulatory bodies such as the MHRA and FDA.

Really wasn’t that long ago that we were told that tobacco was good for our health, with some doctors prescribed it as treatment for ailments – including sore throats! So should we be concerned about socialites e-cig? With any new technology there is an element of skepticism into its safety and feeling like we are guinea pigs for this new industry can be quite distressing.

Problems with socialites e-cigs

After using socialites now for over 6 months I have noticed a wide range of problems. I have used both the two part e-cig and the two vaporizers and encountered similar problems with both. The problems have caused me to get e-liquid in my mouth, on my skin and on my clothes. Which is extremely alarming as the safety info on the e-liquid bottles is clearly marked as toxic.

danger of e-liquid in mouth

warning e-liquid in the mouth

Problems I have encountered with socialites e-cig

  1. Battery over heating and causing very hot vapor entering my mouth and throat.
  2. E-liquid shooting out of the cartomiser into my mouth.
  3. Battery life drastically effected by the temperature (too cold and life is shortened)
  4. Faulty cartomiser, I screwed on a brand new cartomiser nothing came out. No vapor was produced.
  5. Too many empty cartomiser that you can’t recycle, surely any new industry should be producing goods that are 100% recyclable.

Problems that I have experienced with the socialite vaporizer

  1. Cracked inhalator, it seems every time I drop the socialites vaporizer onto a hard surface the clear plastic cracks causing juice leakage.
  2. When you take the mouth piece out to refill with e-liquid some of the juice doesn’t always go down into the chamber. So when you re-attach the mouth piece liquid comes out.
  3. E-liquid going into your mouth when you inhale; this happens way more frequently with the socialites vaporizer compared to the socialites e-cig.
  4. Sitting on the vaporizer and breaking it, often I keep the socialites vaporizer in my pocket and forget it’s there. It will break and sometimes leak if you sit on it.
  5. Unscrewing the battery, sometimes the wrong piece will become detached and if the chamber is full with juice, the contents will spill out all over my hands and clothes.

It is fair to say some of the problems that occur are my own fault and with more care and attention they may not happen. Nevertheless, should products that contain potentially fatal ingredients be allowed to be sold? People that smoke are often busy people like myself and whilst working I keep the e-cig or vaporizer in my pocket. If I forget that it is there and sit down it breaks and sometimes leaks. So better products should be sold that are stronger and pose no risk of leaking toxic e-juice.

Socilites e-cig and vaporizer positives.

After listing the bad points that I have found with socialites e-cigs it is only fair that I list the good points as well, so here goes.

  1. They have a range of great flavors which make the vaping experience really pleasant.
  2. The socialites e-cig is small and compact which allows for discreet vaping.
  3. The e-cig is very easy to use, this makes the transition from smoking tobacco cigarettes really easy.
  4. Health! I feel so much better now I have quit tobacco. My skin looks better, healthier and I am more vibrant. My fitness is improving I can exercise for longer without getting out of breath.
  5. The smell, I don’t stink like an old dirty ashtray any more! Which has pleased all my non smoking friends and I am happy as I am still getting all the nicotine I require. Smoking socialites has made me a lot happier in general.

 Socialites e-cig overview

All in all socialites e-cig and socialites vaporizers offer a very pleasant vaping experience. There are a variety of e-liquid/juice flavors to choose from and both vaping devices are pretty good and reliable. There are a few problems with the socilaites e-cig and the socialites vaporizer that I have outlined. This should be taken into account when choosing what brand to vape; although these problems occur among other brands as well.

Socialites e-cig is small and compact and they provide a smooth vape shot, that gives you the nicotine you need instantly, with juicy flavors and a range of traditional tobacco flavors as well. The socialites e-cig is a much better alternative to smoking tobacco, I have noticed a vast improvement in my fitness levels as I can breath a lot better. I don’t get that horrible phlegm that I would cough up every morning that is associated with tobacco smoking and I don’t stink like dirty stale smoke which my girlfriend (a non-smoker) really appreciates. So overall I would say that socialites e-cig has really improved my general well being and health as well as making my girlfriend very happy.

I got e-liquid in mouth

E-cigs safety e-liquid in mouth

E-liquid in mouth

E-liquid in mouth is poisonous! All safety information instructs you to seek medical advice if e-liquid is consumed. Electric cigarettes and vaporizers turn glycerol, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerol and nicotine into an aerosol, that is inhaled. Are these chemical based products harmful to us?

Side effects of e-liquid in the mouth may include nausea, headaches, skin rash/irritation, chest pains and heart palpitations. Nicotine is poisonous and propylene glycol is used in the manufacture of pesticides and other products. Although it is thought to have little effect if consumed by humans and is deemed safe by the F.D.A. However further studies need to be conducted into the long-term health effects of e-liquid consumption and skin contact. On the food and drug administrations website you will find lists of experimental research that is being carried out right now, they are asking questions about the long and short term effect to humans.

How much nicotine to kill adult?

The exact amount of nicotine required to kill is dependent on height, weight, age and health of the adult. Nicotine poisoning has a range of side effects. E-liquid consumption is common, often when vaping you will get e-liquid in your mouth. The odd drop or splatter from your vape will not be fatal do not worry, however it may have other side effects like the ones listed above. You can get e-liquid in mouth either through faulty products, misuse or just accidentally it is not uncommon! 0.5-1.0 mg/kg nicotine can be a lethal dose for adult humans and much less for children.

How much nicotine can kill child?

The exact amount of nicotine to kill depends again on age height weight etc, also how the nicotine is consumed or absorbed by the body. Although, as little as 0.1 mg/kg for children is considered to be enough for a fatal dose. Very alarming as the average e-liquid bottle contains a lot more than 0.1 mg with strengths up to 34 mg being sold.

Other side effects of e-liquid consumption

E-liquid as we know contains nicotine, too much nicotine can lead to death. Other side effects from over use may include mouth ulcers and blisters. This is worsened by frequent use and a craving for nicotine. The full effect of frequently getting e-liquid in the mouth is not yet known and only time and studies will tell.

Other effects from over use can also include headaches, nausea, chest pain, heart palpitations and visual impairment. If any of these symptoms occur you should stop using your smoking device and if they persist seek medical advice/treatment. When using vaporizing products care and attention should be payed to all safety information, e-liquid should never be swallowed or put in the mouth.

If you do get these symptoms you should try and make some changes to the way you are vaping, try using a lower strength liquid and taking fewer puffs. It is common when you switch from tobacco that you will hardly put the vape down and always be puffing, this can lead to headaches, ulcers and sores in your mouth.

What happens if you drink vape juice?

What happens if you drink vape juice? well it depends how much you drink. The more you drink the more likely you are to die. Although the amount of vape juice you have to drink to die is quite high. Depending on the juices strength you would have to drink at least 10 ml of vape juice. However there are other side effects before you reach the fatality stage. Nausea, vomiting, light headed, spinning vision and sweats are side effects that you will you feel first. Nicotine  poisoning has many symptoms to look out for. I know from personal experience the effects as I once tried to eat a cigarette whilst stoned.

Can you drink vape juice?

Can you drink vape juice? Stupid question, of course you can drink vape juice. You open a bottle and squirt it in your mouth, but!!! Why would you wan’t to drink vape juice? I know the sweet flavors of tropical fruit vape juice, or the sound of beer flavor vape juice sounds like you should drink it. But do not drink vape juice! nicotine is a poison and if you consume enough you will die! If you drink just a little there will be other side effects as listed all the way through the article. So please do not drink vape juice, do not put any in friends drink when you are drunk and for god’s sake keep vape juice out of the reach of children. It will only take a few cases of idiocy or children dying through drinking vape juice to bring the regulators crashing in. Then there would be more laws and stuff past and vaping would become more expensive.

E liquid poisoning symptoms

E liquid poisoning symptoms vary depending on how much nicotine is consumed. They generally start as feeling faint and light headed, followed by spinning, sweats hot and cold, then vomiting. Nicotine is a poison and your body acts accordingly to try and rid it from your system.

Side effects of swallowing e liquid

The side effects of swallowing e liquid are varied, the immediate effect of swallowing e liquid detailed above, however there are potential long term side effects also. Nicotine poisoning can cause long term heart trouble. Nicotine accelerates the rhythm of your heart, a fatal overdose causes a heart attack. If you swallow a lethal amount but survive your heart and arteries may have been permanently damaged, due to the stress of the poisons effect. So again do not swallow e-liquid and always keep it out of the reach of children.

Faulty products causing concern

Faulty products that leak e-liquid in the mouth should not be allowed for sale. Especially as e-liquid can kill and relatively small amounts can cause harm. Tighter tougher regulation is required to make sure faulty cheap products are not sold that can lead to death.

E-Cigarettes

E-cigarettes: a revolutionary evolution in nicotine delivery. E-cigs are used to vaporize e-nicotine which has far lower associated health risks than that of tobacco. The self-contained e-cig comprises of two parts: the battery and the atomizer. The atomizer contains the e-liquid which in turn contains the nicotine and is generally screwed onto the battery.

When the e-cigarette is puffed a censor activates the hot plate, heating a shot of liquid to vaporizing temperature. The exact temperature that e-liquid vaporizes at varies depending on the specific brand and recipe. Once the vaporized e-liquid is inhaled, the nicotine mostly enters the bloodstream via the cheeks and mouth and less through the lungs like the nicotine in tobacco smoke.

E-cigarettes are becoming more widely used and commonplace in society, particularly amongst younger generations. As the industry develops, so does the language coined to describe it. Cig-a-like or cigalike, e-cig, and e-cigarette are all terms used to describe an electronic cigarette.

Rechargeable E-cigarette

Most e-cigs are rechargeable, they have a limited battery life. The length of time that a battery will last depends on how much it is used as well as the make of e-cigarette components. Some e-cig batteries do not work well in cold temperatures, with a fully charged lithium battery only lasting a few minutes in freezing conditions. Rechargeable e-cigarettes have their advantages and disadvantages both of which need to be thought through.

Portable e-cigarette charger

Charge your e-cig on the go with portable cigarette charger and e-cig docking stations. These devices enable multiple battery charges away from mains electricity supply. Some portable chargers also double as a cigarette packet, giving it that authentic look and making it easy to switch away from tobacco.

Solar E-cigarette charger

Even if you are miles from any source of main grid electricity, solar e-cigarette chargers allow you to carry on vaping. With a small amount of solar energy you can charge e-cigs anywhere. All you need is a relatively sunny day to make the most of a solar charger, and depending on the brand of charger you have, you will be able to charge enough batteries to last you through the night.

Disposing of E-cigarette batteries

Used e-cigarette batteries are a danger and should be disposed of correctly. So when disposing of e-cigarette batteries always be careful not to put them where they can be crushed, if they are crushed they can leak and cause a fire.

Pay attention to the damage that batteries can have on our environment both to humans and wildlife, batteries are very toxic to our environment and lithium ion batteries are no exception. If too many of these chemicals get into the ground and water systems it will have a major effect on both our health and the environment.

Dispose of batteries properly by using battery recycling points or sending the used batteries back to the supplier for them to dispose of on your behalf.

E-cigarettes and Water

E-cigarettes and water do not go! They do not like each other and are best kept apart. If your e-cig becomes wet do not continue to use it. Disconnect the atomiser from the battery and dry them both out. If you continue to use the battery when wet then it is likely to short which would damage your e-cig and likely break the battery. Worst case scenario is that it could explode, potentially resulting in injury..

E-cigarettes and Heat

Like most things, lithium ion batteries have optimum working parameters; if the conditions are too extreme one way or the other then the battery could break, seize, explode or drastically decrease in performance.

When e-cigarette batteries get too cold the length of battery life decreases, the battery becomes less active and releases far less energy. On the other hand, if the battery gets too warm it becomes more volatile and likely to explode. Manufacture warning labels instruct to keep out of direct sunlight and to store below 40c.There have been cases of batteries exploding, causing fire and injuries where they have malfunctioned through overheating.

E-cigarettes world order

E-cigarettes are not freely available for everyone, some countries have completely banned e-cig sales and advertising. To give you an idea of the current e-cigarette world order, you would firstly have to understand who, and what is behind the tobacco industry and then look at their links with the regulatory bodies and pharmaceutical companies.

Undoubtedly the corporation that will emerge on top will be the one with the best connections and have the strongest ties within the industry. Combine this with the most valuable assets in all three fields: tobacco industry, pharmaceutical industry and the regulation industry, then that corporation will hold a vast amount of power and control.

Nicotine and e-cigs

nicotine from tobacco

Nicotine is a drug and a highly addictive one – some people say one of the most toxic and hardest to quit. So for those who wish to stop smoking tobacco, but lack the will power to quit nicotine, vaping fills the gap and offers a healthier alternative to tobacco products.

Nicotine is used as a poison and a relatively small amount can kill a horse! It is used for this purpose by veterinarians all over the planet due to its low manufacture cost and effectiveness.

When injected in its raw form nicotine speeds up the heart to such a rate that the pressure builds and it essentially explodes the heart and surrounding arteries, resulting in a very quick death.

Nicotine history

Nicotine was first extracted from the Nicotiana tabacum plant way back in 1828. However it is thought to have been used as a stimulant for thousands of years. Some ancient civilizations produced carvings and art work depicting its use, the Mayan civilization being one of them.

Tobacco in Europe

It is widely known that Christopher Columbus sailed back from the Americas in 1492 with a precious cargo. One of which had never been seen in Europe before.

It did not take long for the powerful addictive qualities of the non-native weed to work its way through the classes of post medieval Europe. It wasn’t until the 1600’s that its true potential as a cash crop was harnessed.

By the 1700’s tobacco farms grew and high demand for tobacco required more man power; slaves were shipped from Africa to fill the labour gap. It wasn’t until around this time that tobacco was refined into the highly-addictive nicotine-laden device of control we know it to be today.

In the 1880’s there was a move from man-power to machines. This meant the speed at which cigarettes could be produced was drastically increased. Thus the cost of the end product significantly reduced. The reduced cost lead to higher demand, greater profits and more smokers.

Nicotine was first used in insecticide in 1793. It is a potent toxin that effects the nervous system. The insecticide had other effects though. Both human and animal life was effected as the potent drug was absorbed and diluted through the food chain. It has also been linked to the current plight of the honey bee population.

Growing addiction

Addiction and substances

Addiction is blamed for the substantial rise in the amount of nicotine consumed. This due to electronic smoking. I have experienced this first hand; when I quit smoking tobacco I was on about twenty per day. Cigarettes contain between 8 mg to 20 mg of nicotine. This depends on brand but only around 1 mg per cigarette is absorbed by the body.

Vaping addiction

When I took up vaping as a way to quit tobacco I used my electronic devices constantly. I was amazed at the seemingly never ending source of nicotine; I only ever stopped to change the battery or refill the atomizer with juice. With this easily available cheap form of nicotine, my addiction has grown to around 5 ml of 16 mg E-liquid. This is the equivalent of over 100 cigarettes per day.

This is worrying on a personal level for me. But from a tobacco farmers point of view to see a rise in consumption of their produce is good news. I was not alone in noticing a rise in my nicotine consumption. In vaping forums around the globe people are saying that their nicotine consumption has trebled or even quadrupled. Compared to when they were smoking tobacco some people are saying they are smoking the equivalent of 200 per day!

E-liquid addiction

E-liquid in the UK is very easy to acquire, it is widely available on the internet. New e-liquid retailers are opening shops on the high street and in shopping centers. E-liquids are easy to buy and there are no restrictions on the amount an individual can vape. So is it any wonder a persons nicotine consumption could increase compared to when they were smoking cigarettes?

If a person takes up vaping as a way to help quit smoking. They might end up vaporizing more nicotine and building up a greater dependence. Then surely this will make it harder to quit in the long run.

Has tobacco finally met its match?

tobacco lighter

Well, trending figures would suggest not really – not yet anyway. Demand for tobacco is still high, despite recent legislation in many countries to ban smoking in public places. It seems they are trying to ostracise those who smoke by pushing them outside on to cold rainy doorsteps.

Recent studies show that in some parts of the world smoking tobacco is becoming less popular. If you look at global statistics the number of tobacco smokers is actually rising.

Tobacco vs Electronic smoking

Online sales of e-cigs are flourishing. New specialist high street vaporizing shops are opening. As well as existing tobacco retailers selling electronic paraphernalia alongside tobacco products.

Research conducted by Action on Smoking and Health (ASH) found that between 1990 and 2010 the price of a packet of cigarettes in the UK more than doubled from around £2.80 to £6.  Therefore e-cigs not only offer the possibility of a healthier alternative to puffing on tobacco, but also present a less costly way of obtaining nicotine – the only listed addictive component of cigarettes.

E-cig users are on the rise in many countries; sales in the UK increased by 340% in 2013. The industry is expected to be worth £340 million per annum by 2015. At present ‘old school’ cigarette smokers are still by far the majority of the smoking population,  though it is predicted that e-cigarette revenue will overtake tobacco within the next decade.

It is estimated that around 42.1 million Americans over the age of 18, around 20% of the adult population, smoke on a regular basis. The percentage of male smokers is slightly higher than female smokers. In Europe the figures are similar but with a higher total percentage of smokers at around 29% of the adult population regularly smoking tobacco products.

The number of of people with a nicotine addiction has dropped quite rapidly in the last few years. Addiction is down around 7% in Europe since 2005. Still it’s not far off 1 in 3 of us that smoke.

So why should we quit smoking tobacco?

We have been warned for quite some time of the adverse health effects that tobacco addiction causes. Lung disease, heart disease, bad breath and stained teeth to name a few. The social implications are causing smokers to be evermore ostracised and cast out from a new healthier less nicotine-dependant society. One that is adopting a more intolerant view towards smokers in an attempt to change peoples habits; this pressure is working to an extent with smoking numbers declining and less new smokers starting up.

Non-smokers are adopting a hard lined defense towards electronic smokers. This despite the fact that electronic smoking poses a very low health risk if passively inhaled. The FDA is proposing a complete ban on e-smoking in public places. Even though research shows the effect to a person’s health is improved compared to smoking tobacco.

The health impact and anti-social aspect of smoking has always been the main spearhead in non-smoking advertisements. So if electronic smoking offers a “healthier” almost odourless alternative what is the problem?

Conclusion

The tobacco industry’s roots lie way back in 1492 after Columbus arrived home from the Americas. Tobacco is now being reinvented with innovative technology. Although maintaining the same morals, driven by money and greed. E-smoking devices are new products in an almost virgin market. Corporations are trying to get as many addicted to a new brand of nicotine double time. This form can be flavored, advertised on TV and endorsed by celebrities. In a free market it’s open to entrepreneurs all aiming to make as much money as possible. It’s hard to say if this new technology has taken us backwards or forwards in terms of ethical thinking. Backwards or forwards in terms of health. Long-term data will have to be analysed in due course and only time will tell.
