It consists of a pint glass, a glass condensing globe and a heat source (e.g. a tea light or candle). They are very reasonably priced and probably safer than making your own. They make pretty good gifts and can be lot’s of fun if used properly. You can replicate the Vaportini and its components in the method shown below.

However, you can quite easily make a D.I.Y alcohol vaporizer at home – all you need is: a glass(preferably a pint glass), a tea light candle, a knife or fork, a straw, a jam jar and something to make a hole in the top of the jam jar lid. Oh and alcohol of course! Something strong – I like to use vodka or a nice white rum personally. If this is to complicated see the beer can vaporizer its by far the quickest and easiest method.

Although making an alcohol vaporizer is cheap and pretty easy to do with things you have lying around the house, it really makes sense if you have a spare 50 bucks just to order direct from Vaportini. At least this way you know 100% you are gonna end up with a product that works and is designed to do the job. 6 Steps to make an alcohol vaporizer

Step 1: Make a hole in the jam jar lid, just big enough for the straw to fit through.
Step 2: Put a shot or two of alcohol in the jam jar.
Step 3: Put the jam jar lid back on the jam jar.
Step 4: Light the tea light and place at the bottom of the pint glass.
Step 5: Put the knife or fork inside the pint glass and insert the alcohol filled jam jar in to the pint glass. (The knife allows air to be pulled in to keep the candle burning).
Step 6: Heat to around 78c/173f or until you can see the vapor forming in the jar and inhale.

It is important that you make the hole in the jam jar lid before heating, otherwise it could explode! Remember alcohol is very flammable.

If you want an easier method just put some alcohol in an empty beer bottle or beer can. Heat the beer can or bottle until you see vapor, then stick a straw in and suck the vaporized alcohol up. Don’t drink too much as alcohol poisoning can be very serious!

How to inhale alcohol vapor

To inhale the alcohol vapor is very simple, you inhale the alcohol through a straw once the vapor has been formed. The Vaportini comes with a glass straw because if you use a cheap plastic straw it may melt. To inhale the alcohol vapor simply poke the straw into the alcohol vapors and draw in as much as you want. You can tell when the alcohol vapor is ready to inhale; as you will see it start to re-condense on the sides of the glass that the vapor is formed in. If you drink too much alcohol your body has a way to cope with this and I am sure most of you are familiar with it, simply you throw up. However this is not fool proof and if you drink too much alcohol you can still die. The thing is, when you vape alcohol your body can not regurgitate the inhaled alcohol, as it by-passes your stomach. This can easily lead to some form of alcohol poisoning. Alcohol poisoning is not always deadly but it can damage your body in various ways. Alcohol poisoning has a detrimental affect on your liver, kidneys,stomach,brain and eyes to name a few and no long term research has been carried out to the affect it has on your lungs when inhaled. E-medicines will be available to buy following regulations in 2016 – exactly when depends on clinical trials and research findings. However, some unregulated products may be available for sale sooner than that over the internet. Though no announcements have been made, and there are few companies advertising e-medicine as an alternative treatment for flu or headaches, it is sure to be available as an alternative treatment at some time in the future. You will be able to vape e-meds at some point within the decade.

Where can I buy E-medicine?

E-medicine post-regulation in 2016 could be available to buy anywhere over the counter from chemists to newsagents. It could and most likely will be available on the NHS via prescription, not only as an aid to quit smoking but also as a treatment for a number of ailments including lung disease and migraines.

Although advertising and sponsorship could be halted, internet sales should remain available and functioning under a medicinal licence. In some cases, buying e-meds will be free if prescribed, if you have no prescription you will be able to buy e-medicines from pharmacies or online retailers. E-meds could and probably will be offered as part of health insurance schemes, part of a healthier lifestyle plan. Most people see vaping as a much healthier alternative to smoking tobacco. Announcements have been made that e-liquid sale and distribution will be regulated as a medicines by the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA).

The MHRA

The MHRA will be the body too oversee the regulation of vaping e-medicines, reporting back to the UK government on findings regarding the safety of both e-liquid and vaping devices.
The MHRA is responsible for regulating all medicines and medical devices in the UK by ensuring they work and are acceptably safe.
The MHRA also umbrellas the National Institute for Biological Standards and Control (NIBSC) and the Clinical Practice Research Datalink (CPRD); the MRHA is the executive agency for the Department of Health.

It is worth noting the roles and the field of expertise that the other two agencies bring – the NIBSC and CPRD – as they will also play a hand in the overall regulatory decisions expected in 2016.

E-cigs Regulated as Medicine

The current reasons being given for the MHRA regulations are to do with product safety of e-liquid and vaping devices, as well as to try and tackle the problem of under aged smokers picking up the habit.

“ This move has been widely welcomed by medical experts and officials, as tighter regulation will ensure the products are safe and effective. Until this happens, e-cigarettes are only covered by general product safety legislation, meaning they can legally be promoted and sold to children, and we cannot be sure of their ingredients or how much nicotine they contain. The MHRA will not ban the products entirely during this interim period, but will encourage e-cigarette manufacturers to apply for a medicine licence.” (source)

Post 2016, E-cigarette medicine licence

After the 2016 regulations come into affect, and with medicine licenses in hand, e-smoking manufactures could theoretically carry on with the sale of regulated vaporizing products. The medicinal licence makes it easier for other e-medicines such as vaped Ibuprofen and Paracetamol to come onto the market as the MHRA and NIBSC already regulate this industry. This partnership would speed up safety research and decision making into e-meds as there would be no requirement for extra licences.

E-medicine Revolution

Although little information has been released about e-medicine trials, research has been conducted using vaporizing technology as treatment for illness. Vaping medicines as treatment for flu, migraines and even cancer could be a social norm post-2016. Providing regulations and medicinal licences allow the development of e-medicine.

The evolution of vaporizing subsequently opens the door to pharmaceutical giants such as GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to compete in the vaping market. They would compete alongside the tobacco giants heading up the current marketplace, for example Philip Morris who have invested millions in electronic smoking and have bought out many smaller e-cig brands in a bid to secure their position as an international multi-corporate organisation.

Controlling Electronic Smoking

Control of this lucrative industry will be hard fought and most likely littered with allegations of bribery and corruption. When the free market links with the regulators, and government announces the results, it will be interesting to see where the vested interests of the decision makers lie.

Complete public transparency and a full public investigation prior to 2016 regulation is required as a matter of public interest. That in itself is a mammoth task as data transparency and corporate information is often very hard to obtain. It is difficult to know who will benefit from the law and product changes, but it is likely to include some current politicians and other members of parliament who have vested interests in.

Regulating E-liquid

The amount of e-juice being vaped by vapers worldwide is causing concern for the regulators, whose goal is to oversee and govern safe usage of vaporizing devices in a market with rapidly increasing scope and value. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) are planning on regulating e-liquid and nicotine delivery devices.

Hardy regulation is likely to mean that current product lines and marketing strategies will have to being altered in order to conform with the newly proposed legislation. Vaping brands like VIP, Blu, Apollo and V2 may have to conceive innovative tactics, overhaul product design and rethink advertising ploys to ensure they operate above-board following 2016’s regulatory revamp.

Industry members, for the most part, have succumbed to the realisation that the pervasive regulatory bodies’ influence is soon to change the market they currently flourish within. Though not all have lost faith so quickly, and some are making last ditch attempts at saving the nature of the largely ‘free’ market they profit from so greatly.

There is plenty of anti-regulation protest online, predicting a move towards cheap black-market products and the criminalisation of vapers, and a continuation or even worsening of tobacco smoking addiction and related illness if the option of affordable harm-reduction is curtailed.

There is a consensus that the FDA are not trustworthy impartial adjudicators when it comes to governing such a valuable and profitable industry. They are accused of colluding with the tobacco industry giants to put profits before public health in the past, so why should this change in the present day.

Well there are a lot more media outlets reporting on this new industry, mainly online sources reporting independently to a much wider audience. This will make it harder for collusion to take place but certainly not impossible, as the level of power and monetary value of the industry are so great that the temptation for greed to interfere with decision making process may prove too enticing.
